Evaluate the Evidence

It’s challenging to evaluate the reliability of health information found on millions of websites on the Internet. Recommendations from trusted sources may help you identify reliable resources.

However, you still need to know how to evaluate the information you find.

Evaluating the reliability of health information found on websites is a 2-step process. You need to evaluate:

1. The reliability of the website and

2. The reliability of research referenced on the website

Note: If you are retrieving studies and syntheses directly from one of the databases referenced in the Find section (like the Cochrane Collaboration or by using PubMed), you would proceed to the second step, evaluating the research. Otherwise you’d begin by evaluating the reliability of the website first.
